Big Bank Hank died last night in Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in New Jersey. Hank was a member of The Sugarhill Gang along with Wonder Mike and Master Gee. The group is world-renowned for their 1979 hit “Rapper’s Delight,” the first rap single to chart the Top 40, selling over 10 million copies. Hank was manager for The Cold Crush Brothers’ Grandmaster Caz and working at a pizzeria when Sylvia Robinson’s son Joey heard him rap. Hank created controversy when he used a verse written by Caz in “Rapper’s Delight” and kept the writing credit. Hank, born Henry Jackson, was suffering from cancer. He was 57.
Roy Ayers is arguably the most sampled jazz artist of all time alongside James Brown. Many of Ayers’ songs including: “Everybody Loves the Sunshine”, ”Searchin,” & “Running Away” have been repeatedly sampled and remixed by producers and DJ’s worldwide!
When Pete Rock was first asked to perform in a tribute for Roy Ayers backed by Robert Glasper in 2009 he was beyond honored. They tore down the house in NYC and it was here they met for the very first time at this Roy Ayers tribute performance. The exchange and dialogue between each other regarding music history and its continuum was quite remarkable. In the summer of 2011 the duo decided to tour Europe together performing jazz, soul and hip-hop in venues like London’s famed Jazz Café toRotterdam’s beloved North Sea Jazz Festival. In support of their touring efforts the Roy Ayers & Pete Rock tee was born.

15 years after they last toured together, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, the critically acclaimed Hip-Hop duo have announced their plans for a 25-city US & Canadian Tour. The group who emerged onto the music scene in the early 90’s with their debut EP, “All Souled Out” released three studio projects together; their later work included the release of their classic LP “Mecca and the Soul Brother” and “The Main Ingredient”.

This year’s BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher has just heated up as Kendrick Lamar spits some choice words towards Drake. Taped in Atlanta this past weekend, the TDE crew of Kendrick, Jay Rock, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul and newest signee Isaiah Rashad joined the cypher.
“Yeah, and nothing’s been the same since they dropped “Control”/ And tucked a sensitive rapper back in his pajama clothes/ Ha-ha jokes on you, high-five, I’m bulletproof/ Your sh*ts a never penetrate, pin the tail on the donkey boy you been a fake.”

Cappadonna from the legendary Wu Tang Clan collaborates with Outbreak Boards to release a limited edition skate line. Outbreak’s “The Killa Bee” line will showcase skateboards with Cappadonna’s iconic “Killa Bee” in various designs that many professional skaters will respect. The skate decks will be made with Canadian Maple wood and also will include sticker decals, custom designed clothing, hats and accessories. “I wanted to give an alternative for young people to do besides drugs and guns, especially in hoods across the nation. TMZ recently obtained an autopsy report on the gunned down rapper. It reports that the 24 year old Christopher Wallace, who was listed at 6’1″, 395 lbs, was shot 4 times in a 1997 drive-by shooting as a passenger in a Chevy Suburban. The attack took place on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles. The killer has still not been identified. Read the rest of this entry
